David Benowitz has nearly 20 years of experience as a criminal defense attorney in Washington, DC. He began his career as a Staff Attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS), which was recognized as the top public defender office in the country from 1995-2001. While at PDS he represented clients in the litigation of a number of serious criminal matters, including first degree murder, first degree sexual abuse, and armed robbery.
David then founded Price Benowitz LLP with the goal of assembling a team of aggressive, detail-oriented defense attorneys who do everything in their power to obtain the best possible result for each of their clients.
At Price Benowitz David represents clients in a variety of high-profile white collar and criminal matters in federal and local courts, including the “Africa Sting” FCPA prosecution dismissed by the United States Department of Justice. He also represents CEOs and employees in government investigations.
David obtained an LL.M. in Trial Advocacy from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law in 2006. He graduated from George Washington Law School in 1995 near the top of his class, where he was a member of the George Washington Law Review, the Moot Court Board, and participated in the DC Law Students in Court Program. David received his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991.
David is a faculty member at Harvard Law School’s Trial Advocacy Workshop. He is the only Washington DC criminal defense attorney to be certified as a Criminal Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and he is an executive committee member of The National Trial Lawyers – Top 100 Trial Lawyers organization. David has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent rating, he is rated a perfect 10/10 on the AVVO rating system, and he has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer.”
