AboutDavid Benowitz

David Benowitz has 25 years of experience handling criminal defense and white collar matters in federal and local courts. He practices in courts in Washington, D.C. and around the country.  David began his career as a Staff Attorney for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS), which has been recognized as one of the top indigent defense organizations in the nation. In this role, he represented clients in serious criminal cases ranging from first-degree murder to armed robbery and car-jacking.

David founded Price Benowitz with the goal of assembling a team of aggressive defense attorneys committed to achieving the best possible results for their clients. At the firm, David represents clients in a wide array of high-profile white collar and criminal investigations and prosecutions.   His clients include CEOs, federal government contractors, financial service executives and employees, and business owners.

David’s matters include representation of the former President of an African nation charged with bulk cash smuggling, a high-ranking Naval officer charged in a wide-ranging government corruption probe and a business owner charged in the “Africa Sting” FCPA prosecution dismissed by the Department of Justice.

Awards & Accolades

David is a current faculty member at Harvard Law School’s renowned Trial Advocacy Workshop.  He is the only Washington, DC criminal defense attorney to be certified as a Criminal Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  David is an Executive Committee member of the National Trial Lawyers – Top 100.  He has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent Rating, a rating of 10/10 by AVVO, and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2013. From 2013-2014, David was Co-Chair of the Steering Committee for the Criminal Law and Individual Rights Section of the DC Bar.

Education

David received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991, graduating cum laude. He went on to graduate from the George Washington University Law School near the top of his class, where he was also a member of the George Washington Law Review, the Moot Court Board, and the DC Law Students in Court Program. In 2006, David continued his education at Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, where he received his LL.M. in Trial Advocacy.
